If you are looking to install an asphalt shingle roof on your property in Las Vegas, you have to recognize that there are several types from which to choose. The asphalt shingle is a popular roofing type because of its affordability and its long-term performance; it is a proven roofing type. Whether you are looking to new construction or for a roof replacement, the three-tab asphalt shingle might first come to mind, but in terms of long-term performance and aesthetics, the architectural asphalt shingle is the better choice. In the appearance of the roofing, you really can't tell that the architectural shingle has a better chance of outlasting the three-tab shingle, but it in fact does. The reason that it does is not because it is a different roofing type; rather, it is because the architectural shingle is the better of the two types in terms of its design and quality of materials.
Another option that is common and popular, but not always the best choice, for roofing in places like Las Vegas is the three-tab shingle. Although they are light, they are what I would call "faux architectural." I say that because they are supposed to mimic a look while not necessarily performing as an architecture-grade material. You can get them for less than what you would pay for architectural shingles, but I would not recommend them if you are a homeowner who is trying to budget and also wants long-lasting roofing that can perform in the kind of intense sun, short-duration high winds, and other architecture-challenging weather we get from time to time in Las Vegas.
If homeowners are looking for a premium roofing option, luxury asphalt shingles are an excellent contender. They are superior in terms of both durability and aesthetics, giving an appearance not quite achieved by any other asphalt shingle. They can be found in thicknesses and textures that allow them to mimic high-end materials, like slate or wood. Unlike many other asphalt shingles, which tend to come only in shades of gray, these shingles come in a much more satisfying spectrum of colors. They offer a robust construction that provides a nice amount of heft. That heft translates, in my mind, to an appearance that just looks more "luxury" than your average asphalt shingle. Of course, it also should translate to better wind performance and weather resistance; opting for luxury models over standard models could save you some trouble down the road.
